TREE

He was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1975. He studied Photography at the University of Joong-Ang in Seoul between 2003 and 2009. Currently he is a professor at the Photography Department of the Joong-Ang University. His work has been exhibited in New York, Seoul and Kiyosato, Japan.

His series Tree proposes intriguing questions about representation, reality, art, environment and seeing. Simple in concept and complex in execution, Myoung Ho Lee’s series make us look at the trees one by one in their natural surround. He separates the tree artificially from nature and presents it on an immense white canvas as backdrop, creating indeed free air temporal facilities. We can see the tree without the distraction of a crammed background. Myoung Ho Lee’s constructions are thought to simplify and intensify the view; this way, he turns mundane landscapes into meditation objects.
